In November 1998the Department of General and Liver Surgery, Medical University of Warsaw and the Foundation for Liver Transplantation and Progress in Gastrointestinal Surgery organised the first international symposium:Progressin Liver Surgeryand Transplantation. Many outstanding specialistsfrom France, Germany and Czech Republic were invited to Warsaw to meet and discuss recent developments in liver transplantation. The most important problems which have always been discussed on such occasions are connected with techniques of transplantation. The standard technique of the orthotopic liver transplantation involvesthe resection of the liver with retrohepatic part of the inferior vena cava.
