Thirty years ago, on January 26th 1966, the first successful, cadaveric kidney transplantation in Poland was done in Warsaw by Professor Jan Nielubowicz (including the team members: Doc. B. Marzinek, Dr. W. Olszewski, Dr. W. Rowinski, Dr. Jerzy Szczerban - surgeons; Dr. Janusz Kącki,Dr. Jerzy Siedlecki and Dr. Bogdan Kaminski - anesthesiologists). The recipient, a 18 year-old nursing school student, had been prepared for surgery and taken care afterwards in the Department of Medicine by nephrologist professor Tadeusz Orlowski and his team (Dr. H. Rymkiewicz, Dr. D. Stryjecka-Rowinska, Dr. M. Lao, Dr. E. Klopotowska and Dr. L. Gradowska).
